Ella's Journey: A Volunteer's Perspective
Nathan, one of our programme volunteers, has witnessed first hand the incredible journey young people go on during their time with the Youth Adventure Trust. Our volunteers have a huge impact on the experiences the young people have - they are role models, mentors and friends.

Ella started Forest Camp quietly amongst the group, seemingly content to listen rather than speak. She had some good ideas when encouraged and was happy to give everything a go, which was great to see.

Throughout the high ropes fun, team challenges and bush-craft activities Ella continued to enjoy herself but remained quietly spoken. However, it was the overnight canoe bivouac on the fifth day where she really came out of her shell. Ella had clearly enjoyed the canadian canoeing down the river Wye! That evening her voice was the loudest and most enthusiastic around the camp fire, really enjoying puzzling out some riddles and talking about all sorts of things with hot chocolate, as the hypnotic flames flickered away.

As a volunteer, it is a real honour to get to know and assist young people in an environment which is often alien to them.  I love the opportunity to help to unlock the secrets of the outdoors and from a selfish perspective, I love to take part in the activities too.

Oceans of Opportunity

Did you know 1 in 5 young people haven’t paddled in the sea? This Christmas help us give 20 vulnerable young people the chance to build valuable skills at Coastal Camp, the second camp in our life-changing adventure programme.
