Mark's Marathon: Why is this happening to me?

I'm not a runner! But for some reason, when the chance to run the London Marathon came up I thought it would be a great way to celebrate my 50th Birthday and raise some money for a charity that is really close to my heart.

It's also exactly what the Youth Adventure Trust does - we take people out of their comfort zones and help them discover their potential. Well, the prospect of running 26 miles in April is definitely outside my comfort zone but I’m hoping I have the potential to raise enough money to fund two places on the Youth Adventure Programme.

Training has been a bit up and down – and I don’t just mean along the beaches in sunny Suffolk. I have endured injuries, pink strapping, hurricane like winds, lashing rain and a training plan that is crammed into half the time that the average marathon runner gets.

With every passing day all I can focus on is the impending pain and public shaming. Join me on my marathon journey by watching the pain here and following the pain here.

That said, the one thing that has kept me going is the support and encouragement I have received so far. I set out on this marathon quest with the aim of raising £3,300 – enough to fund one place on the programme. I am staggered, delighted and more than a little overwhelmed that I have already reached this target. A massive thank you to everybody who has supported me so far!

So, the new plan is to raise £7,000, which will cover the cost of two places on the programme and some kit for the camps.
If you would like to help relieve some of the pain, then please feel free to support me here.

Look out for me on marathon day, Sunday 24th April – I’ll be the slow one starting out with all the celebs!
