A day in the life of a volunteer

Volunteers are friends, mentors and role models to the young people we work with.  Read on to find out what a typical day on camp is like and contact Jon Rich to find out how you can get involved.

Ever Wonder what Volunteering on the Programme Involves?

After a short briefing by a member of Youth Adventure Trust staff it is time to wake the young people, the saucepan (un)musical band was probably the best method this year! After breakfast it’s the morning’s super-fun mini-challenge (AKA washing up or similar but never referred to as chores), then kit is organised for the activity ahead.

Our day was spent climbing, caving and abseiling but other activities include bushcraft, adventure walking, canoeing or high ropes. On returning to camp there’s time for a quick shower and some free-time.

All meals are provided and meal times are the perfect time to chat with the young people, as well as other volunteers.

The evenings are filled with more activities such as an evening hike, a chance to learn circus skills, archery or team challenges. The day is rounded off with a hot chocolate and a review session, helping young people review, reflect and record what they have achieved during the day.

The next day it’s time to do it all over again… nathan

If this appeals to you why not get in touch. I can’t recommend it enough.

Oceans of Opportunity

Did you know 1 in 5 young people haven’t paddled in the sea? This Christmas help us give 20 vulnerable young people the chance to build valuable skills at Coastal Camp, the second camp in our life-changing adventure programme.
