We are thrilled to share the exciting news that one of our incredible volunteers, Mandy Maloney, has been formally recognised by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Dr Olivia Chappell OBE, for her outstanding dedication to the Youth Adventure Trust. Mandy received a special award during the Rule of Law service in Salisbury Cathedral – a prestigious event attended by local dignitaries including MPs, judges, emergency service leaders, and civic figures.

Mandy began her journey with the Youth Adventure Trust in September 2020 as a mentoring volunteer. Since then, she has gone above and beyond in every role she has taken on – supporting young people through our Mentoring Scheme, joining our Adventure and Resilience Programmes, and helping at our fundraising challenge events. Her tireless enthusiasm and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on our team and, most importantly, the young people we support.
Throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mandy remained flexible and compassionate, tailoring her approach to meet each young person’s unique needs. She has an instinctive ability to build trust, empower those she mentors, and work collaboratively with families and staff alike.
“Mandy is well-liked, bringing a can-do attitude and positivity to whatever she does and is always keen to go over and above to support the charity,” said Becky Brotherton-Brown, Mentoring Programme Lead. “Despite being a volunteer, Mandy has always shown 100% commitment and dedication to the role and carried out everything asked of her to the highest standard. She has truly embraced every aspect of YAT life and really does deserve the award.”
Dr Olivia Chappell OBE paid tribute to Mandy and fellow honourees:
“Every facet of our lives in this beautiful county is enhanced by kind people giving their time and helping to create the inclusive, positive society that we want to live in… Wiltshire thrives because of you all.”
Also recognised at the event were Mike Angell for his work at Erlestoke Prison, Elizabeth Hockney for her transformation of Donhead St Mary Churchyard, and Bob Sanderson for 34 years of volunteering with St John’s Ambulance.
Mandy will be returning to the Mentoring Programme this autumn, continuing her mission to inspire young lives through outdoor adventure. We are so proud to have Mandy as part of our volunteer team—her passion, warmth, and generosity truly embody the spirit of the Youth Adventure Trust.
A huge well done and thank you, Mandy!
