What is the challenge?
We’re challenging you to run, ride or ramble, or ski, scoot or swim 25km, 65km, 100km or 200km across the 9 days of February Half Term. Depending on where you live, February Half Term is either from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th or Saturday 18th to Sunday 26th February 2023.
You choose your own distance for the Virtual Resilience Challenge. Whether you’re a beginner, want to involve your young children, or you want to push yourself in a discipline you’re already familiar with, we have the distance challenge for you!
You can of course take on the challenge yourself on one day during the week, or you can spread the distance out. If you’re challenging yourself as part of a team, you can even split the distance between team members, so, for example, a family team of 4 people would need to cover 5km each every day for 5 days to reach the team 100km target.
If you’re more experienced, why not build your resilience with a 65km or 100km Resilience Challenge? Or push yourself even further and take on an ultra 200km!

How does the challenge work?
The Virtual Resilience Challenge is a virtual event taking place from Saturday 11th to Sunday 26th February 2023 – two half term weeks. You decide when and where you want to complete your challenge. To sign up, simply register your details and you’ll be asked to set your distance and fundraising targets on your fundraising page.
Make sure you also add a profile picture on your fundraising page and your reason for taking on this challenge for the Youth Adventure Trust. Then all you need to do is share your fundraising page with your friends and family to bring in those all-important donations! Remember to include the hashtag #ResilienceChallenge when sharing your page online.

Do I need to complete my activity on a specific day?
You can choose to get outside and complete your activity on any day in your Half Term, between Saturday 11th to Sunday 26th February 2023. But if you want to spread your distance over your full week of Half Term to challenge yourself even further, then go for it!
If it’s not possible for you to complete your Virtual Resilience challenge over the Half Term, you can choose any date in February to suit you, just let us know by emailing natalie.levin@youthadventuretrust.org.uk so we can support you from afar on your selected dates.

Where is the Virtual Resilience Challenge taking place?
The Virtual Resilience Challenge is a virtual event; this means you decide on where to complete your challenge. Explore a new trail or use a tried and tested route, whether that’s in your favourite park, your garden, or the local countryside! You can even use indoor exercise kit if that’s your challenge.

Is there an age limit to take part?
To take part, no – the more the merrier! The challenge is for people of all ages and abilities.
To register online, yes. If the person signing up to the fundraising event online is under the age of 18, they’ll need a parent or carer to confirm their consent on the registration form.

Can I take part as a team?
Yes – we’re all about working together as a team to motivate each other! The team leader needs to sign up online to take part in the challenge, but you can still ride, run or ramble, or ski, scoot or swim with members of your own household. Alternatively, sign up as a virtual team: gather a group of friends to take part with you but not (physically) with you!

Which apps can I to use to track my distance?
You can track your distance using Strava by connecting your account as you set up your fundraising page (or after, if you forget!) so that your supporters can see your progress across the week. You can also use other apps such as Runkeeper or Fitbit to track your distance, and you can easily upload your stats manually.

I use a wheelchair. Can I still take part?
Absolutely. Strava and Fitbit (mobile apps used to track your distance) can both record distances for wheelchair users.

Is there a registration fee?
No, there’s no registration fee to take part in the Virtual Resilience Challenge, however we do encourage you to raise as much money as possible to support vulnerable young people.

How do I collect money for my chosen challenge?
When you sign up, you’ll be guided through setting up your fundraising page. All donations collected on your page will come directly to the Youth Adventure Trust.
Your fundraising page will be set up with some information already included about the challenge – simply add your own profile picture and connect your Strava account if you have one! It’s also a great idea to add your own words explaining why you’re taking on The Virtual Resilience Challenge. Your fundraising page will then be ready to share with your friends and family so they can donate to support you and the vulnerable young people we support. Remember to tag us and include the hashtag #ResilienceChallenge when sharing your page online.

How do I pay in my fundraising?
All donations made to your fundraising page will be automatically transferred to the Youth Adventure Trust, so you don’t need to do anything. If you have any offline sponsorship (cash or cheques), you can add these to your fundraising page total – please contact natalie.levin@youthadventuretrust.org.uk so we can let you know where to send in your sponsorship.
Some employers also offer to match fundraising done by staff. Get in touch with Natalie if you need a confirmation letter.

Is there a minimum amount I should raise?
Like many others, Youth Adventure Trust and the young people we support have faced a challenging couple of years. We’re asking everyone who takes on The Virtual Resilience Challenge to try and raise funds to match the kilometres you’ll cover – or more if you can! So, if you’ve signed up to complete 25km your fundraising target is £25, 65km target is £65, 100km target is £100, and 200km target is £200. Whatever you’re able to raise, every penny will help vulnerable young people to build their resilience too.

What support do I get?
Once you’ve signed up, we’ll send a supporters pack and will be on call to help you! We’ll also invite you to join a private Facebook group where you can virtually meet and share your progress with others taking part in this challenge. Don’t worry if you’re not on Facebook, we will still support you and will send you regular updates by email. In the lead up, we’ll also share fundraising tips to help you smash your target. After the event you’ll receive a thank you certificate and a bespoke medal if you’ve raised £25 or more.

Is there a hashtag I can use for sharing my progress online?
Yes! Share your fundraising and challenge progress on your social media channels using hashtag #ResilienceChallenge, and tag in Youth Adventure Trust.

Tell me more about the prizes!
We’ll be awarding special prizes to those of you who push challenge boundaries and step out of your comfort zones. Prizes will be awarded to the highest team fundraiser, highest individual fundraiser, and furthest distance covered, as well as for the best adventure photo, best team photo and best pet adventurer photo – so don’t forget to tag us in when you’re sharing your photos or submit them to us by email!
